About Our Congregation
Founded in 1994, Shaarei Orah is the first Sephardic congregation of Greater Teaneck. Currently, the synagogue has approximately 50 member families.
Shaarei Orah has been holding prayer services at a private home in Teaneck for the last twelve years. In 2001, a 12,000 square foot lot was acquired at 1425 Essex Road, Teaneck, NJ and designated as the future site of the synagogue; a larger facility to meet the growing needs of this dynamic community which includes a diverse group from many cultural backgrounds. Culminating a process that began in 2002, synagogue construction was completed in March 2012.
Jack Varon, past President of Shaarei Orah says, “this building is vitally important in the preservation of a rich heritage that includes both Sephardic prayer and customs. It gives its member families an opportunity to pray together and share in each other's life events in a place that is suitable for its growing membership.”
Our Kehilla welcomes new faces interested in joining us and those who wish to become members. For membership information, email membership@sephardicteaneck.org or click here to download our membership form.
